This is obviously a new forum, so I thought I would add some posts to it to start you off.
I run a rentals website, and have noticed over the years an increase in scammers, especially from Nigeria. I don't know what it is about that country, but it breeds them. Their general line or attack is to lead you into thinking that you are going to get a booking from a large family, or a business trip. Then after a few emails, they send you a money order, or a fake cheque for more than the amount you requested. They in turn, appologise, and ask for the remainder to be sent back to them. Their payment then bounces, and you are left out of pocket.
I have lots of examples of these, if anyone is interested. I can post some here if requested to do so.

Please post here some of the SCAM emails that you got. I think the Nigerian Scammers are harmless, because almost everyone will recognise their inquiries as fraudulent from the first line. They are always with tipos, bad grammar and wrong spelling. The really dangerous scammers are from UK and their inquiries are fine and looks like authentic. Do you have some of that kind?

Your comments are correct with regard to the Nigerians, their grammer is appaling. We havn't had any experience with the UK scammers to our rentals site, although I have a friend in Vietnam who has had UK scammers approach him (and their english was very good, as he sent me a copy of the email). That's not to say that we havn't had any UK scammers - they just havn't come to light yet. We received this one from Denmark (although I suspect it was a Nigerian aswell), with the English being OK. Quote: I am Lance Hodson, am a football coach and i work with the EXILES RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB here in Denmark. I will be coming over to US on holiday from the 10th of December on to the 17th of December 2007 for Vacation with my wife Rita. Could you please send me a more detailed description of your accommodation and What's the cost of rental per week or per night? Exiles rugby will be paying you in advance of our visit so that we can be assured of an accommodation during our stay, because this is our first visit to US and Exiles rugby is also taking care of all my vacation expenses. An early reply will be appreciated. Please acknowledge if you can offer this accommodation service and am email, so we can conclude on all other arrangements ASAP, as time is not really on our side Kind Regards, Lance. This is very helpful post. I have heard some of the scams with some traveler when they travel to Nigeria. But looking at this, such scams are really overrated.

We should have a database or sticky page with all the scams in one place. I think at this point the "Nigerian Scam" is a house hold name. I feel really bad when I here the stories of what people went through.

This is very alarming. I've been receiving spam emails from nigerians, well some from UK lottery, and I am aware that a lot of these have been going on around the net. So it already went as far as scamming vacation rental providers as well. But then, some of these emails and inquiries seem very convincing.
