Whether you are an owner or a renter it's imperative you treat all inquiries as potential scams until proven otherwise. The good news is that most scams are noticeable by using a little common sense. Noticeable scams generally involve poor language, grammar and incorrect or unpublished information. Most fraud involves sending cash/money to a scammer. DO NOT send any money using Western Union/Moneygram. If possible, complete all business transactions by meeting the third party directly, credit card, or through PayPal. Don't forget to ask for several references.
Property owners - Do NOT issue any refunds until the money/check clears your bank account. I would even wait longer because some fraudulent checks and money orders will even fool your bank. Do not give out banking information such as a routing or bank account number.
